The Power of Self-Inquiry

Discovering the divine within through Ramana Maharshi's teachings.

Sri Ramana Maharshi is arguably the most globally recognized sage of Tiruvannamalai. He did not teach complex mantras, difficult physical yogas, or intense rituals. His entire philosophy rested on one simple, devastatingly powerful tool: Self-Inquiry.

The Illusion of the Ego

Ramana taught that the root of all human suffering is the ego—the false belief that you are a separate, individual entity composed of a body and a mind. When you ask the question "Who am I?", you are essentially putting a spotlight on this ego.

The Thief Catching the Thief

He often used a famous analogy: trying to use the mind to kill the mind is like a thief pretending to be a policeman to catch himself. Instead, Self-Inquiry bypasses the mind entirely. By constantly tracing the feeling of "I" back to its source, the ego eventually dissolves, just as a ghost vanishes when you shine a light on it.

Connecting with the Divine

When the false "I" dissolves, what remains is the true Self—pure awareness, pure existence, and pure bliss (Sat-Chit-Ananda). In this state, you realize that you are not separate from God. God is not an entity sitting on a cloud; God is the very awareness looking through your eyes right now.
