Meditation Retreats

Structured spiritual experiences in the holy town.

For many visitors, simply being in Tiruvannamalai is a retreat in itself. However, if you are looking for a structured, guided experience to deepen your meditation practice, the town offers several excellent retreat options.

Vipassana at Dhamma Arunachala

Vipassana is one of the most rigorous and rewarding meditation retreats available globally. The center in Tiruvannamalai offers 10-day residential courses. You will wake up at 4 AM, meditate for 10+ hours a day, and observe absolute noble silence. It is completely free (run on donations) and requires advance booking.

Satsang and Non-Duality Retreats

During the winter months (Dec-Feb), many international Advaita (non-duality) teachers visit Tiruvannamalai to host "Satsangs" (gatherings of truth). These are usually drop-in sessions held in local ashrams or halls where teachers answer questions and guide group meditations.

Ashram Stays

While not a formal "retreat" with a strict curriculum, staying inside Sri Ramana Ashram or Yogi Ramsuratkumar Ashram provides a highly structured daily routine. Your day will revolve around early morning Veda chanting, communal meals, and hours of silent sitting in the meditation halls.
